Xu Zhucheng, the famous modern newspaperman, engaged in newspaper working a whole life. During his career, he worked in Takungbao and Wenhui newspaper for 30 years. In Takungbao, he worked as a journalist, an editor, and a chief editor successively. Though Xu Zhucheng's leave of Takunbao caused controversy, he contributed much to the development of Takungbao as an excellent journalist. At the early publication of Wenhui Newspaper, Xu Zhucheng took part in editing Wenhui newspaper as a general writer, the chief editor successively and created a new time of Wenhui Newspaper.According to the analysis of published news, comments and letter, this thesis will display Xu Zhucheng's news thought through his 30 years' work experience in newspaper under the background of the society at that time. Xu's news thoughts are summarized to three parts, they are newspaperman thought, newspaper character thought and news art respectively. The real meaning of newspaperman thought is the newspaperman must be independent, brave and take the newspaper as his career. The newspaper character is the newspaper should be independent, patriotic, democratic and progressive. The news art means news is something like the art, pay great attention to exclusive news and good news is like good dish which need careful cooking.As a successor of liberalism, Xu Zhucheng's news thought is obviously influenced by the communication of western liberalism in the early Twentieth Century and the liberalism newspaperman and liberalism newspaper. This thesis also analyzes the process of development of Xu Zhucheng's news thought, and the roll liberalism plays in his news practice.
